Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are the ages of children at the Family Crisis Center and where do they come from?
A. Currently the Family Crisis Center serves children ages 10 through 18 who have been removed from their home for abuse or neglect. Normally they come from a home located in Denver or Jefferson County.

Q. How long do they stay?
A. Stays may vary from 1 day to 90 days. However, the Family Crisis Center has recently been approved for long term care, therefore for special cases the child may stay for a year or more.

Q. What services does the Family Crisis Center Provide?
A. The children receive physical care by a full time Doctor that is on-staff and ongoing psychiatric counseling. There are special education teachers at the Family Crisis Center and the children attend school there or are transported to schools in their home neighborhood. Additionally, ongoing family counseling occurs for parents and guardians. All meals are provided.

Q. Why should I contribute to the Friends? Taxpayers money pay for the Family Crisis Center. Right?
A. Tax dollars provide the building, staff and food for the center. The Friends provide the "extras" that create a more loving and nurturing environment at the Family Crisis Center. For example: Outings (movies, footballs games, bowling, swimming, zoo, meals out, etc.), holiday and birthday presents and celebrations, a suitcase full of clothes and toys when a child goes into foster care, dances, special home cooked meals, fun bedding and decorations.

Q. Where can I send donations other than money?
A. Donations can be sent or dropped off at the Family Crisis Center, located at 2929 West 10th Avenue in Denver during business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM).  Items can be donated that are appropriate for children between the ages of 10 and 18.

Q. How do I find out more information about the Friends of Kids in Crisis Board of Directors?
A. Contact board member Scott Dill at 303.299.8260 or via email at sdill@shermanhoward.com.
